Learning my ABC’s

I’ve been seeing this survey on a couple different blogs (meals & moves, i’m an okie…) and I thought it’d be a great way for you to get to know me a little better, as in know a couple more attributes about me other than the fact that I seem to love breakfast ( a little too much at times) 😉

A is for Apple, what’s your favorite variety?

Apples are one of the fruits that I don’t eat all that often, but when I do, I eat a lot of it.  I guess I could say that I have apple phases.  Currently I’m not in one, but I do like fuji apples.  I can’t stand granny smiths by themselves…they’re just too tart for me, however, when they’re baked into apple turnovers or pies, I’m all over it!

B: is for Bread, regardless of nutrition, calories, or whole grains what is your favorite type to have a nice big piece of?

Forget about a nice big piece, when it comes to Panera Bread’s holiday bread, I’d eat the whole loaf if I could.

My friend first introduced it to me a couple of years ago and now I make sure I get at least one loaf every November/December at Panera when it’s available.  If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it.  It’s basically a loaf of bread with chopped apples, whole cranberries, plump raisins, chocolate chips, and cinnamon sugar all rolled up inside and rounded off with a drizzle of white icing.  Tastes just like the holidays!

I’m also a huge fan of Ezekiel bread.  I just love the heartiness of it.

C: is for Cereal what is your favorite kind currently (just one!) Currently

I don’t like to play favorites when it comes to cereal, but currently I’m loving most of Barbara’s cereals.

I can eat the peanut butter and chocolate puffins all day long.

D: is for Doughnuts, you might not currently be eating them but what kind do you fancy?

I don’t really ever eat them, but I love love love dunkin donuts chocolate donut holes.  They’re the perfect size and oh so chocolaty.  YUM.

E: is for Eggs, how would you like yours prepared?

I like my eggs either mixed into my oats or poached.  You can’t tell, but these oats are LOADED with eggs whites.  Delish.

F: is for Fat Free, what is your favorite fat free product?

Frozen yogurt for sureeeee!  I can’t get enough of it!

G: is for Groceries, where do you purchase yours at?

I really only shop at two stores…Wal-Mart and Whole Foods.  And once in a blue moon I’ll hit up market street or sprouts. Butttttt, pretty soon I’ll be shopping at Trader Joes!!  can’t waittt 🙂

H: is for Hot Beverages, what is your favorite hot drink?

Illy Coffee.  As I talked about, I can’t really drink it all that often, but its SO good.

I: is for Ice Cream, pick a favorite flavor and add a fun topping.

This is wayyy too hard!  But I guess I’d have to go with extra dark chocolate topped with mini dark chocolate chips.  (Can you tell I’m a chocoholic?)

J: is for Jams or Jellies, do you eat them, and if so what kind and flavor?

Yep!  Lately I’ve been forgetting about adding it to my meals because I ran out, but I restocked yesterday.  I love St. Dalfour’s 100% fruit spreads.  There’s no sugar added and you can’t tell at all!  I love ALL their flavors, but if I had to choose a favorite, I’d go with strawberry.  Can’t go wrong with such an original flavor!

K: is for Kashi Kitchen, name your favorite Kitchen appliance?

I don’t ever eat Kashi so I’m not sure what my favorite would be…So I changed it to ‘K is for kitchen‘ 🙂  My favorite kitchen appliance is my blender for sure.

It makes me the most amazing smoothies.

L: is for Lunch, what was yours today?

I had a terrible lunch today.

I had one and a half servings of fries from In-N-Out (pictured above is what was left of the 2nd bowl).  I was only going to eat a couple fries, but somehow I ended up eating wayy more than I should have.  I promise I don’t usually eat this badly, but I kind of just couldn’t help myself today…And now I feel terrible.

M: is for microwave, what is your favorite microwave meal/snack?

Tofu scrambles hands down.  Amy’s tofu scrambles to be exact.  Not only do they taste amazing, but they have amazing stats, AND only take 2 and a half minutes to make.

N: is for nutrients, do you likes carbs, fats, or proteins best?

Carbs.  I’d eat carbs all day long if I could.  I would totally eat the carb amount listed in the food pyramid if I could, but I feel like it’s a bit too much.  I’m pretty sure the veggies group and the breads, grains, pastas group should be switched.

O: is for oil, what kind do you like to use?

Honestly, I try to avoid oil when cooking, but when I do use it, its either extra virgin coconut oil or olive oil.  Does anyone else think coconut oil smells ahhmazing??  I just can’t get enough of that smell.  I wish it was a scent I could spray on…I’d totally rock it 😉

P: is for protein, how do you get yours?

Lately I’ve been getting my protein through low-fat cottage cheese on and in pretty much EVERYTHING, from pancakes to waffles to oats, and more…

I also get like to add egg whites to all my oats.  It gives it a slight savory taste that goes so well with fruit.

 My new favorite chocolate protein powder, green food’s true vitality, is also a great and tasty way to get in that protein.

Q: is for Quaker, how do you like your oats?

I like my oats all mixed and topped up.  Particularly with fruit.

R: is for roasting, what is your favorite thing to roast?

Sweet potatoes!  with a large dollop of ketchup.

S: is for sandwich, what’s your favorite kind?

So many hard questions!  Sandwiches are my favorite lunch.  I’d probably have to say almond butter and jelly.  I can never get enough of it.  Yet I don’t have a photo of it…

T: is for travel, how do you handle eating while traveling?

Terribly.  For some reason my mind thinks that when I’m on vacation I can eat whatever I want.  I know its not true, but I can’t help but think it.

U: is for unique, what is one of your weirdest food combos?

I have too many weird food combos.  I’m pretty sure I come up with at least one a day.  This morning I added cooked quinoa to my chocolate-strawberry breakfast smoothie.  It wasn’t the best combo and made for an extremely grainy smoothie.  I still ate it though!

This is one of my better ‘odd’  combos:

Bananas, strawberries, and 3 grain tempeh all wrapped up in a mini flatout wrap.

V: is for vitamins, what kind do you take?

I’m terrible at swallowing pills so most of my vitamins come in the form of gummies.  So terrible that one time I got one lodged in my throat and ended up having to go see the doctor.  My favorite is slice of life.

It tastes just.like.candy.  Its too bad I can only eat two a day…

W: is for wasabi, yay or nay?

YAYY!  I love wasabi and eat it straight with my sushi.  None of that whole soy sauce nonsense is necessary.

See that cup of wasabi there?  Its not enough for me. I like to feel the burnnnn!

X: is for XC Foodie, why is she so awesome? XRAY. if we xrayed your belly right now, what food would we see?

Pineapple.  I’ve been eating it non-stop all day.

Y: is for youth, what food reminds you of your childhood?

Fried rice is the first thing that comes to mind.  I had pretty strange foods for breakfast when I was in elementary school. My mom would get up early to make me fried rice of noodles for breakfast.  At one point she would even give me two scoops of vanilla ice cream for breakfast each morning because that was all I would eat.  I used to have NO appetite for breakfast (can you believe it?)

Z: is for zucchini, how do you prepare it?

I don’t eat it very often because it’s one of those veggies I tend to forget about.  When I do eat it I like it grilled.
